Data Protection as a Service to Make Corporate Privacy Firewalls Impregnable

By Sharad Singh

As the technologies advance, the concerns regarding data security increase. Threats to the backups and archives would be the driving force for the data protection as a service (DPaaS) market. DPaaS offers cloud-based disaster recovery and enables backup for virtual machines by integrating the backup and recovery services. DPaaS enables tools and services that offer modules for functionalities including the programs such as network analysis software.

As many companies are venturing in the market, it is growing at an exponential rate. A tech-giant, Hitachi Vantara has modified its pricing policies and developed its services to improve efficiency of the user, while reducing the financial waste. Dell Technologies made noticeable changes in the market of DPaaS by launching its own secure and protected cloud services. Even Tata Consultancy launched a new platform, in the DPaaS market, called HOBSS. HOBSS uses VPN connection to remotely control the work security and creates addition “tunnels” to strengthen its security. Furthermore, it also consists of tools such as hypervisors, firewalls, and network virtualization. Many big corporations have recognized the need for DPaaS and have started investing in the DPaaS market. After performing exhaustive research, Allied Market Research has forecasted that the global market for data protection as a service  would rise to $28,878 million at 31.5% CAGR by 2022. Investments from big corporations would play the key role in the growth of DPaaS market.

One of the top investors in the market of DPaaS is Hitachi Vantara. Hitachi Vantara, a subsidiary owned by Hitachi, has launched its own DPaaS and expanded its capabilities for storage as a service (STaaS) from Hitachi. STaaS offers high-end storage and data protection to the enterprises along with transparent-consumption based pricing, rapid deployment, and guaranteed service levels. There has been significant growth for cloudlike approaches in the enterprises as they have increased the incorporation of cloud technology. This incorporation ensures smooth system management, flexible consumption, security, and scalability.

Hitachi Vantara has endorsed a flexible “pay-as-you-go” policy which ensures transparency in the pricing. It enables any user to use advanced analytics and make informed operational decisions. It improves the efficiency of the user and curbs the financial waste caused by paying for unused capacities. The “always on” policy of Hitachi Vantara consists of a service team that manages the user’s service catalog and infrastructure. A customer can choose between data availability, performance, remote replication, RPO/RTO, and retention from the service level catalog. These wide range of services ensures that the customer have a compliant, secure, and sovereign data that can be easily controlled through all the service levels that are essential for the business. These services would be provided by Hitachi through global system integration and cloud service provider partners as well as directly to the client.

Another big corporation to make ripples in the market of DPaaS is Dell Technologies. Jeff Clarke, the Vice Chairman of Products and Operations at Dell Technologies stated that only an organization that can harness the power of digital capital will be successful in the digital economy. For its data center, the company has launched Dell EMC unity XT, Dell EMC Integrated Data Protection Appliance, Dell EMC Cloud Storage, Dell EMC PowerProtect, Dell EMC Isilon, and Dell Technologies Services.

Dell EMC Cloud Storage Services helps an enterprise to extend its services to public cloud along with analytics and disaster recovery. The cloud storage service helps the data centers of the customers to extend to the cloud as the storage services are directly connected to the public cloud compute. They have upgraded its Dell EMC Unity mid-range storage system to Dell EMC Unity XT. This upgraded storage system is faster than its previous version. It can smoothly run in a public cloud, move data to the cloud, and offers services that are available through the Dell EMC Cloud Storage Services.

Another company to venture in the market of DPaaS is Tata Consultancy. It has launched a new platform for digital enterprises called “HOBS”, a hosted OSS/BSS. The firm has launched this software on the platform of Microsoft Azure. The company said that all the users of TCS HOBS can enjoy the benefits of pay-as-you-use policy and can effortlessly expand its market. TCS HOBS helps by increasing the market of communication service providers (CPS) and other similar businesses. Big data, machine learning, natural language processing, and other micro-services would boost customer, automation, and employee experience through TCS HOBS. Microsoft Azure has provided a convenient platform for TCS HOBS, as it can use this platform to offer Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and Business-Process-as-a-Service (BPaaS). This platform greatly helps in optimization of costs of digital enterprises and enhance the customer experience.

North America has taken a lead in the market for -DPaaS by making the industry diverse by implementing DPaaS at a greater extent. The governments in Asia-Pacific have significantly increased the investments in its infrastructural activities for effective data protection. DPaaS industry would substantially rise as the model for private clouds are deployed

As technology advances, more and more enterprises choose to digitalize its documents. To ensure the protection of this digital data, the need for data protection services increases at a substantial rate. The fast pace advancement of digital sector will drive the market for DPaaS to new heights.
