Low Code Capabilities Are Key to Digital Workflow Transformation Success, According to New Kofax Study

Kofax 2020 Intelligent Automation Benchmark Study Finds Low Code Capabilities Key to Empowering “Citizen Developers” and Bridges the Gap between IT and Business Users

IRVINE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Kofax®, a leading supplier of Intelligent Automation software for digital workflow transformation, today announces Part 2 of its Kofax 2020 Intelligent Automation Benchmark Study, a Forrester Consulting thought-leadership paper commissioned by the company. The report finds organizations using low-code intelligent automation platforms have the greatest success in digitally transforming their most valuable, information intensive business workflows.

Part 1 of the Kofax Intelligent Automation Benchmark Study, published April 2020, pointed to the progress organizations have realized in automating key workflows, as well as their strong preference for a single-vendor platform delivering end-to-end automation. This new report examines the specific requirements for the automation platform from the perspectives of IT and “citizen developers” – business users increasingly driving and implementing automation strategies.

“Organizations are rapidly shifting to a digital-first culture as they position for the new norm. Companies are increasingly investing in digital-first strategies to drive growth, efficiency and resiliency by upskilling the digital savviness of employees. They’re also investing in integrated intelligent automation platforms built for professional and citizen developers. Integrated low-code platforms enable and accelerate collaboration between line-of-business and IT leaders as they work together to digitally transform complex high-value business workflows ultimately connecting the enterprise for increased agility,” says Chris Huff, Chief Strategy Officer at Kofax. “Our latest benchmark report underscores the need for organizations to incorporate the needs of IT professional developers and business user citizen developers when identifying, selecting and implementing an intelligent automation platform for digital workflow transformation.”

According to the survey of 450 global automation and AI decision makers, line-of-business managers increasingly demand functionality that helps them do their job more efficiently. Respondents said ultimately, the platform must result in reduced workloads (67%) and improve efficiency (70%). To achieve these results, business line managers seek specific characteristics in their intelligent automation platform:

  • Strong integrations with current technology (74%)
  • An easy-to-learn platform (73%)
  • An easy-to-use platform (71%)

Survey respondents expect additional benefits by selecting a more intuitive automation platform capable of accommodating IT and business line managers as well as citizen developers, including:

  • Increased employee productivity (52%)
  • Improved customer experience (49%)
  • Improved operational efficiency (45%)

The Kofax 2020 Intelligent Automation Benchmark Study is based on a January 2020 survey of 450 automation and AI decision makers, and 450 individual contributors in North America, Australia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Sweden and the UK. It provides insights into the current state of enterprise automation.
