[take :phillip] áááphillipáá} ride sharing companies like lyft traditionally stay in louisiana's bigger cities but if this bill passes, it would be much easier to expand statewide. not only lyft is supporting this but other organizations such as one acadiana are supporting this too. [take pkg{ááápkgáá}<john horton who is the community affairs manager for lyft says as it stands right now if one of their drivers tried to go from the airport in new orleans to the french quarter they could be in violation of several laws because of regulations in the different jurisdictions they would pass through.(super: john horton) "as a transportation company, we are moving between all of these municipalities and it make sense to have one set of statewide regulations."and organizations like one acadiana believes statewide regulations would be great for acadiana."we know with the downturn of oil and gas over the last number of years in louisiana that people are really looking for those additional earning opportunities and this has provided that."but horton says lyft has been researching the type of impact this legislation could have on the state."studies have shown that when ride sharing operates in certain communities. they see dramatic reductions in duis so we see safer roads and we overall see a better product so lafayette already has lyft but you have the 2nd biggest college in louisiana so if we are able to put more drivers on the road through statewide framework that means shorter wait times and an overall better product."> [take :phillip] áááphillipáá}the house passed a similar bill last year but it stalled in the senate. however, supporters are a lot more confident it will pass this year. live in the studio, phillip boudreaux, news 15 focused on family
