Ritchie Bros. Simplifies Disaster Recovery and Builds IT Resilience with Zerto

Global heavy equipment auctioneer protects online business from potential disruptions, streamlines management of DR, and improves RPOs, RTOs

BOSTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Zerto, an industry leader for IT resilience, today announced that Ritchie Bros., a global asset management and disposition company, has modernized its disaster recovery (DR) and strengthened its IT resilience with Zerto.

Through its multiple online selling platforms, Ritchie Bros. helps thousands of people around the world buy and sell heavy equipment, trucks, and other assets. Because bidding is done in real-time through the Ritchie Bros. websites, if downtime occurs, sellers and buyers can’t complete business transactions and revenue opportunities are quickly missed.

Prior to working with Zerto, the IT team at Ritchie Bros. relied on using a non-Zerto based MSP solution and wanted to bring DR in-house to simplify operations and strengthen their IT resilience.

After testing modern DR solutions on the market, the IT team determined that Zerto’s IT Resilience Platform was extremely simple to use and worked with a variety of their existing storage solutions. Ritchie Bros. uses Zerto to protect their mission critical applications, as well as containerized applications.

“At the end of the day, we’re a technology company,” said Stephen Charles, director, enterprise infrastructure & technical services at Ritchie Bros. “Our customers need our auction services to be available 24/7 so they can get top dollar for their assets. Because of our global reach, if a critical auction service is down for even a minute or second, sales can get postponed or lost altogether. With Zerto we’ve been able to gain much better RPOs and RTOs to protect the business from any potential disruptions while minimizing expenses.”

Since implementing Zerto, Ritchie Bros. has reduced the time needed for failover testing. Ritchie Bros. has also used Zerto to migrate data from an old datacenter to a central datacenter following an acquisition.

“Helping Ritchie Bros continue serving the needs of its worldwide customers without worrying about technology disruptions, downtime, or data loss is fundamental to modern IT operations and strategies,” said Coley Burke, CRO of Zerto. “We’re delighted that Ritchie Bros. is using Zerto for DR, data migration, and protection across both servers and containerized applications to build IT resilience.”
