Blue Duck Looks to Continued Growth in 2021 as Demand for Micromobility Increases in Small- and Mid-Sized Cities

Partnership with Wunder Mobility provides full-service technology support, enabling Blue Duck to focus on first-rate service and operations in cities with few mobility alternatives

SAN ANTONIO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Blue Duck, a San Antonio-based micromobility company, has started 2021 at full speed, strengthening relationships with a growing number of customers and partners as demand continues to rise in smaller metropolitan areas for affordable, eco-friendly micromobility services.

Blue Duck provides electric scooters and e-bikes in cities throughout Texas and the southeastern U.S. with a distinctive “Southern style” approach built on collaborative partnerships with residents, businesses and municipal leaders. Rather than flooding large population centers with vehicles in pursuit of rapid growth, Blue Duck develops 1-on-1 relationships with stakeholders in small- to mid-size cities and college towns, carefully integrating its service into communities. This includes working together to designate specific operation areas and craft rules concerning curfews, parking policies, and more.

That cooperative approach continues to pay dividends, as the three-year-old company has become the exclusive or primary micromobility provider in a growing number of locations, most recently including Winston-Salem, North Carolina; Vicksburg, Mississippi (where Blue Duck was the first micromobility provider in the state); and Waco, Texas, among many others.

“Beginning with our very first contact, city leaders and stakeholders know that Blue Duck is committed to being a responsible partner,” said Megan McNamara, Blue Duck’s Senior Director of Partnerships. “We tailor our services to the specific needs of every community, and then work with our partners in an ongoing relationship to ensure their residents and visitors enjoy the full benefits of the micromobility revolution.”

Blue Duck is a job creator in each of its markets, establishing local operation centers and employing community members as fleet managers rather than relying on independent contractors, as many competitors do. Community members always have a local point of contact to call or text directly for questions and feedback about the service.

Dockless scooters and e-bikes are gaining momentum in cities of all sizes as a “last-mile” mobility solution that is affordable, convenient, and eco-friendly. Unlike public transit or ride-hailing services, scooters and e-bikes are also completely Covid-safe, fueling their popularity over the past year.

Bradley Ford, Deputy City Manager of Waco, Texas, said, “Blue Duck has responded to the City’s goals for shared mobility, including ensuring appropriate parking regulations, maintenance standards, and an equitable pricing structure.”

Last year, Blue Duck began working with Wunder Mobility, one of the world’s fastest-growing mobility technology companies, to support its back-end operations. The Blue Duck app relies on the industry-leading technology platform from Wunder Mobility, which also provides Blue Duck with a custom back-end and front-end as well as seamless integrations and customizations to better optimize and grow their unique business model in multiple ways.

“In just a few months, Wunder Mobility has become an invaluable extension of our team, not only powering our service platform around the clock but also providing invaluable data and guidance about our business that we rely on as we expand,” said Blue Duck CIO Andre Champagne. “With our technology needs in such good hands, we’re able to fully devote ourselves to strengthening our relationships with our partners and providing the best-in-class service and operations that Blue Duck is known for.”

Melika Jahangiri, Wunder Mobility’s Vice President of Global Key Accounts and Head of Americas, applauded Blue Duck for its unique approach to growing rapidly but responsibly, which is setting the standard for other mobility providers around the nation.

“While 2020 was challenging for all of us, Blue Duck enjoyed a dynamic year by engaging with cities and other partners in a collaborative, cooperative and sustainable way. We expect that success to continue,” Jahangiri said. “We’re proud to work alongside such a visionary business that’s extending the benefits of micromobility to thousands of new customers every year, which goes hand in hand with our shared vision for mobility.”
