Strategic Healthcare Compliance Advisor Lisa Murtha Joins Moses & Singer
NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Moses & Singer LLP is pleased to announce the arrival of F. Lisa Murtha (Lisa) as the firm’s newest partner to its Healthcare practice group. A strategic healthcare compliance advisor, Murtha brings more than three decades of healthcare, research, billing, fraud and abuse, HIPAA privacy, and compliance experience to the firm. She joins Moses & Singer after spending more than three years as Senior Managing Director at Ankura Consulting.
“Lisa is a smart, problem-solving lawyer that will be a critical asset to our team,” said Linda Malek, Chair of the firm’s Healthcare and Privacy & Cybersecurity practice groups. “Many of our clients are on the front lines of developing promising therapies that will help resolve the Covid-19 crisis, and Lisa’s knowledge and proven experience in this area will be extremely valuable as they navigate the many regulations impacting the development of Coronavirus solutions.”
Earlier in her career, Lisa worked as in-house counsel to two nationwide healthcare organizations—Pennsylvania Blue Shield and Continental Medical Systems, and served as the chief compliance officer for both Pennsylvania Blue Shield and the University of Pennsylvania and its health system. In fact, she was one of the first healthcare chief compliance officers in the United States and has been providing compliance services to healthcare providers, payers, and life sciences organizations for the past 25 years.
At Moses, Murtha will focus her practice on resolving issues related to human subject protections, allegations of research misconduct, research and general Medicare billing practices, grants and contracts fraud, Good Clinical Practices compliance, issues of conflicts of interest and healthcare fraud and abuse.
“I am excited to return to the traditional practice of law and work collaboratively with the impressive team at Moses & Singer,” said Murtha. “I expect that we will be incredibly busy in 2021, as we focus—along with the world—on breakthrough COVID-19 research, ensuring privacy in new and innovative healthcare technologies, and generally safeguarding important scientific research to guarantee that it meets the clinical compliance standard.”
Murtha was a founding board member and officer of the Health Care Compliance Association and the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics. She is currently a faculty member of the Loyola University Chicago Law School where she teaches the research and FDA Law course. She earned her B.A. from Pennsylvania State University and her J.D. from the Dickinson School of Law.
Murtha’s addition comes directly on the heels of the arrival of Dean W. Steele to the firm’s Corporate and Maritime and Multimodal Transportation practice groups, two other areas of law expected to see an uptick in 2021.
