MEDFORD, VA / ACCESSWIRE / March 22, 2021 / Josue Velney has come a long way in his life to get to the real estate path he has devoted himself to today. Born in Haiti, Velney moved to Somerville, Massachusetts at age three, where he grew up and cultivated his fascination with the military. He always admired the Marines, who he saw as the best military faction, and when he found that college didn’t work for him, he signed up before even getting his mother’s opinion on the matter. To become a Marine was to find fulfillment for Velney. From that early age, he wanted to put himself forward as someone who helps the people around him, even while putting himself in danger.

Velney served as a Marine for five years. He saw three combat tours, two in Iraq and one pursuing pirates alongside the Navy. When this all came to an end, he longed to serve his community directly, so in the waning period of his military career, Velney began training to be a firefighter during his time off. He wanted to transition to this new role, and what better place to fight fires than his hometown of Somerville?

This was his career for over a decade. Velney served the community he had lived most of his life in, oftentimes alongside his own brother, something he found to be the peak of fulfillment. The fire department allowed Velney to help people in a different capacity, relying less on the violent means of protection he was used to in the Marine corps. He was performing CPR on people he recognized, saving the family heirlooms of those he knew well. In those twelve years of serving in the fire department, he continued working with that passion that drove him to sign with the marines.

Today, after retiring from the fire department, Velney is looking towards helping his community in a new way. Now a licensed real estate broker, construction supervisor and home improvement contractor, Velney is devoting himself and his company’s endeavors towards real estate investing and contracting. He wants to teach those in his community how to set up generational wealth through real estate, to buy and create units to make housing more affordable in Massachusetts. Velney is well aware of the lopsided supply and demand in today’s housing market and decided that through rehabilitating old properties and building new ones, he can add some supply to offset the price hikes that have occurred in recent years.

This is what Velney has always been devoted to solving problems in the communities he is passionate about. With the fire department, these were short-term problems: fires that needed to be put out, in-the-moment emergencies that had to be rectified. Now, he is turning his focus towards long-term solutions: bettering his community in the long-term, so that it can continue to flourish after he is gone.

This is what drove him to receive a Bachelor’s in Construction Management from Wentworth Institute of Technology. It is an ambition that has grown within him since his childhood. Velney is someone who works hard for his community and those he considers family, and there is little doubt that Winter Hill Homes will serve this community for years to come.
