The UP Company Breaking Down the Stigmas Associated with Marriage Counseling in the Black Community
CHARLOTTE, NC / ACCESSWIRE / September 22, 2021 / The UP Company was established to address these issues with the belief that one transformed marriage creates a ripple effect of healthy whole families for generations to come.
Mental health care and counseling are highly overlooked in the black community for many reasons, ranging from pressures of always being strong or the feeling of having a stigma attached to talking to a counselor. The risk is very high for many couples, whose marriages grow cold in an attempt to hide how bad it has become. We’re excited that more are learning about the benefits of counseling and are seeking support.
Established by therapist and speaker Natasha D. Oates, The UP Company operates out of Charlotte, North Carolina, built from years of counseling experience and a lack of therapy practices that focus on the needs of Black young professionals. After years of helping couples with five-star therapy services, Natasha D. Oates recognized an unspoken stigma that couples attached to counseling, especially in the Black community.
“It seemed like a failure on their part whenever they sought help in their marriages, but the biggest failure is not seeking help and allowing the marriage to end. They made it seem like therapy was for crazy people, and my way of setting out to change that was by creating UP retreats,” Natasha revealed.
The UP Company is an offspring of UP Retreats, an initiative that created unique experiences to help couples have fun, reignite their spark and learn how to build healthy marriages. UP Retreats set out to help families enjoy the peace and affection that every family should have. From hosting events for couples, UP Retreats morphed into The UP Company, which now works with young professionals and young couples through retreats, therapy services and keynotes.
The UP Company has enjoyed significant success, thanks to its service standards-responsiveness, extraordinary warmth, professionalism and polish, which make up the acronym REP. The company’s core belief is firmly enshrined in strengthening the family unit to ensure a thriving community. The UP Company has established its reputation as one that uses innovative ways to provide culturally relevant, cutting edge, personalized therapeutic services for families, couples, professionals and youth.
“We believe that healing the world starts with healing ourselves first. To ultimately achieve our vision of creating a cultural shift in our community with new healthy legacies of marriage, family, self-care, self-love and financial prosperity. Moving from just surviving day-to-day to thriving,” Natasha said. “Our goals include delivering therapy services that facilitate exponential holistic growth and achieve overall optimal emotional, mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing.”
The UP Company strives daily to help its clients break generational patterns of toxic relationships, family strife and other emotional barriers and traumas. Every member of The UP Company’s team recognizes the company’s vision and understands the need to be driven, ethical, responsive, and can create welcoming and cohesive environments for the clients. With many awards and media features to prove The UP Company’s level of impact in the community, Natasha D. Oates takes pride in championing a cause that not only helps keep the family unit strong but also contributes to a cohesive, healthy and thriving community.
Some of the company’s five-year plans include expanding to other states, anchoring more programs, retreats and keynotes while working on a global expansion to get The UP Company to every part of the world.
