Delaware Valley Community Health Chooses Nutanix to Deliver Telehealth
Healthcare Organization Selects Private Cloud Solution to Enable Approximately 75% of Employees to Work and Serve Patients Remotely During COVID-19 Pandemic
SAN JOSE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Nutanix (NASDAQ: NTNX), a leader in enterprise cloud computing, has announced that Delaware Valley Community Health, a private, non-profit healthcare organization, is leveraging Nutanix private cloud infrastructure to enable approximately 75% of their workforce to work remotely and provide telehealth to their patients. With Nutanix they were able to decrease the average electronic medical record (EMR) login time from approximately 171 seconds to approximately 19 seconds, enabling clinicians to provide necessary patient care more efficiently.
Delaware Valley Community Health provides a number of services to its patients, including traditional primary care, internal medicine, pediatrics, optometry, OBGYN, behavioral health and medication assisted treatment therapy. With eight locations, it serves over 71,000 duplicated patients each year.
The Delaware Valley Community Health IT team faced a new challenge when COVID-19 emerged but quickly stepped into action and reached out to Nutanix to enable telehealth. While most people are required to shelter in place, patients still need to connect with doctors, receive medicine, and access their healthcare portals. Delaware Valley Community Health understood this and were quick to respond to this pandemic.
They were able to migrate their old physical servers to a Nutanix hyperconverged infrastructure-powered private cloud, including auxiliary servers and associated databases. Nutanix’s speed and availability enabled them to migrate nine servers onto Nutanix in less than 24 hours. Within a week they had a fully integrated telehealth solution, allowing approximately 75% of their 310 employees to work remotely.
“With Nutanix we are able to continue business, and serve our patients, making me a proud CIO. Without Nutanix I am not sure how I would be feeling right now,” said Isaiah Nathaniel, CIO at Delaware Valley Community Health. “Our mission is to serve the underserved and we are serving them well. We would not be able to do this without a partner such as Nutanix.”
Before implementing Nutanix, Delaware Valley Community Health had a traditional legacy infrastructure that was unable to scale and support its growing organization. Their IT infrastructure supports a variety of business critical databases and applications including their electronic medical record (EMR), enterprise performance management (EPM), patient portal, human resources information systems (HRIS) and population health management. Having an efficient and reliable infrastructure in place is crucial to serving their patients.
With Nutanix, Delaware Valley Community Health saw an improvement in its medication module system, which enables doctors to provide medication to patients. Before Nutanix this process took anywhere from three to five minutes, but with Nutanix it now takes approximately 15 seconds. Increasing the process delivery speed allows Delaware Valley Community Health to serve more patients than previously possible.
Nutanix enabled Delaware Valley Community Health’s IT team to integrate virtualization, app mobility, management, operational highlights and security in their new environment allowing them to streamline management and work more efficiently. To maintain business continuity, DVCH installed HYCU for Nutanix, which provides purpose-built, application-aware backup and recovery for the organization’s data centers.
Delaware Valley Community Health was able to serve about 2,600 visitors in March 2020 thanks to telework and telehealth strategies and supporting technologies. If patients and providers were unable to access databases remotely or login to the portal, this would not have been possible.
“With healthcare on the frontlines more than ever during this pandemic, it is crucial that organizations like DVCH are still able to provide the care and assistance their patients need. Having the right infrastructure in place allows organizations to focus on what truly matters, instead of being held back by an aging IT environment,” said Cheryl Rodenfels, Healthcare Strategist at Nutanix. “IT teams can sleep a little easier during these unprecedented times knowing that they can rely on an IT environment that enables them to telework and keep their infrastructure secure.”
With plans to add two more locations by 2022, Delaware Valley Community Health is looking into potentially leveraging Nutanix Desktop-as-a-Service solution, Xi Frame to enhance their work from home capabilities.
