First clients must define what they are looking for, what their must-haves are, and what a deal breaker is, and they need to be very clear on what the budget they are working with will allow them to buy. Next, they need to know what kinds of rules and regulations are imposed on and around the lake. The water line and floodplain affect landscaping as well as additions and things like putting in pools and spas. Water quality, storage space, using a septic system, transferring ownership of septic systems, electric plans, and other technical, lesser-known concerns people may not be aware of when looking into purchasing lake property. Jones mentions the prospect of drought, and how that will affect the water access and availability of a property over time. No two lakes are exactly the same, and every situation will have unique circumstances.

Jones makes the analogy for finding your spouse you have to date different people until one finds the person they mesh the right way with, which can sometimes happen quickly and can other times take a very long time. Jones was born and raised in West Texas, and has a long professional history in different industries, after 25 years working in the grocery industry, he made the switch to real estate in 2005. His grandfather was in real estate and Jones credits him with inspiring and encouraging him to get into the field.
