Volcanik Entertainment: Professional Wedding DJs Discuss Adapting to Change and Keeping Up with Trends
PISCATAWAY, NJ / ACCESSWIRE / December 29, 2021 / The wedding industry is constantly evolving with fresh ideas and the latest technology. For professional DJs, this means adapting to the latest gadgets and trends. The Volcanik Entertainment team has watched the scene change quite a bit over the past 10 years; social media has become a big influence on the new generation of couples getting married. DJs need to keep up with what’s trending, but they also need to know the roots of DJing, music, and what it takes to rock a dancefloor at a wedding.
According to DJ Volcanik, South Asian weddings in particular demand knowledge of each culture’s music (such as Bollywood, Punjabi, and Gujrati), each of which has its own subgenres and styles, from old school to new wave and dime-a-dozen remixes. “Though it can be difficult to keep up with it all, proper planning and research before each event makes it all come together at the end of the day,” he explains.
Volcanik Entertainment is a breath of fresh air for the wedding entertainment industry.
Founded in 1998 by DJ duo Ashish and Hemant Patel, Volcanik Entertainment is a a private event DJ services company and full production entertainment service. They provide a club-style DJ, MC, sound system, and lighting. Though they primarily work with South Asian weddings, they have experience performing at weddings of many different cultures. “Over the years, we’ve learned what it takes to get any crowd moving,” Ashish says. “We can create an experience for any culture or style.”
Ashish, aka DJ Volcanik, is the face of Volcanik Entertainment while his partner and co-founder Hemant Patel runs the logistics and performs as a professional MC. They have had the honor to work with many other DJs, techs, and experts in their field throughout the years, and so far, they’ve been met with widespread acclaim from the wedding entertainment industry.
Volcanik Entertainment has weathered many hardships over the years.
Volcanik Entertainment has endured many challenges over the past two decades in the industry. The company has survived the post-9/11 economic slowdown and the 2008 recession, when many couples were spending less on weddings or foregoing them altogether. They survived the COVID-19 pandemic, when many other DJs hung up their headphones.
Now that we are nearing the end of the pandemic, all of the events which were postponed are happening again. All of the people who have been cooped up or quarantined in their homes are starting to come out – and they are going to let loose and party harder than ever. They’ve already seen it happening in the last few weddings they’ve performed at.
Educating clients is an industry-wide challenge.
Even with the pandemic coming to an end, there are a few challenges left to conquer. The team sees competition and client education as their biggest challenge. As Ashish explains, “There are always ‘bottom feeders’ in any industry; if you speak with anyone at Pioneer or Numark, they will tell you how many DJ controllers have been sold to new DJs coming in to the market. It’s very easy to buy a laptop and controller and call yourself a DJ these days.”
Professional DJs need to show clients that their music budget for the wedding should reflect the quality of experience they’re hoping to get. A cheap DJ company may bring all the bells and whistles, but many of them don’t know how to read crowds and their knowledge of music is limited to their own interests. Many couples think that going with the cheapest option will save them money, but a bad DJ can ruin a wedding day and cost a lot more in lost memories.
Educating potential clients on how and why to choose the right DJ instead of choosing the cheapest one is essential to the prosperity of the industry, but has proven to be one of the biggest challenges for the market as a whole.
Going with the flow: adapting to change and the importance of experience.
Volcanik Entertainment has been through the era of cassette tapes and CDs, to turntables and dual unit CD players, to laptops and controllers. “Industries always evolve,” says Ashish. “Events will always be thrown, but DJs and business owners need to be open-minded and adjust to current trends, especially when it comes to marketing and advertising.”
The Volcanik team believes that it’s not always about playing the latest songs or having the best equipment. Instead, they pride themselves on hard work, dedication, and respect for the craft. As Ashish states, “Even though technology will evolve and new gadgets will come out, the experience of reading the crowd and having the versatility to swim with the ebb and flows of energy in the present moment, that cannot be purchased. It only comes through experience.”
