Securonix Appoints Former U.S. Department of Energy and Department of Homeland Security Senior Technical Advisor to Lead Operational Technology (OT) Business Unit

Edward Rhyne Joins Securonix as Executive Principal, Head of Cyber Physical Systems Security to Develop Behavioral Analytics Solutions for OT

ADDISON, Texas–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Securonix, Inc., a leader in Next-Gen SIEM and XDR, today announced the appointment of Edward Rhyne as Executive Principal, Head of Cyber Physical Systems Security. In this position, Rhyne will be responsible for the technical development and leadership of Securonix’s newly created operational technologies (OT) business unit within Securonix Threat Labs.

“The increasing convergence of information technology and operational technology systems has made enterprises revise their end-to-end security strategies with more emphasis on OT,” said Nanda Santhana, SVP, Cyber Security Solutions and Threat Labs, Securonix. “Ed is the ideal fit to lead our new OT business unit within Securonix Threat Labs and develop solutions that monitor an organization’s cyber physical systems for behavioral anomalies in the same way that our next-gen platform rooted in UEBA scans for deviations in an IT environment. Ed’s deep expertise in securing cyber physical systems in both the public and private sector will prove invaluable as we enter this exciting new phase of platform innovation.”

Some of the most devastating cyberattacks in recent history have targeted OT environments, including the Colonial Pipeline and JBS Foods. With 30 years of experience working for private sector organizations and federal agencies including NASA, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Rhyne has been committed to developing technologies that make cyber physical systems run more efficiently and safer. Within the federal government, Rhyne held one of less than 500 senior scientific positions (ST). At the DHS, he helped develop autonomous biological detection systems that used lab-grade equipment in the field for analysis and reporting. He also developed moving target defense systems for enterprise security.

At Securonix, Rhyne will develop OT security solutions that will be delivered as packaged content in the Securonix’s security analytics and operations platform. By applying an analytics-driven and behavioral approach to security monitoring for OT, Rhyne and his team will develop vertical specific solutions that identify OT threats and respond autonomously across verticals including manufacturing, banking, automotive, financial services, and more.

“Ever since starting my career with an internship at NASA, I have worked on how to make cyber physical systems more secure,” Rhyne said. “Modern security teams look at networking protocol analysis to secure IT environments from cyber threats, and this methodology has been widely adopted in securing cyber physical systems, but using the physics of the systems will help focus these efforts to identify malicious activity quicker. Today’s bad guys are using our internal processes against us and only by identifying anomalous behavior in cyber physical systems can we be completely sure that we’re doing everything we can to protect the enterprise. I look forward to leading Securonix’s new OT business unit and accelerating its path as one of cybersecurity’s next great companies.”
