United States Investing Championship Nine-Month Results

LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#TopTraders–The United States Investing Championship today announced the leaders for the first nine months of 2022. Three hundred fourteen top traders participated, but only 27, or 9%, reported profits, according to contest organizer Dr. Norman Zadeh. The United States Investing Championship is a real money, verified competition that allows up-and-coming traders to showcase their talent on the world stage. Prior top performers include Paul Tudor Jones, Louis Bacon, Mark Minervini, and David Ryan. Participants specify an account number at the beginning of the year for tracking purposes and use their brokerage statements to verify performance.

Leading the $1,000,000+ stock division with a nine-month return of + 22.5% is DeWayne Merritt, from Bentonville, Arkansas. In comparison, the S&P 500 was down 23.9% for the first nine months of 2022. Mr. Merritt grew up in Pine, Louisiana, and currently works as the district manager for an insurance carrier. Second is Sam Bhatia, + 2.1%.

In the stock division, among traders with accounts of less than $1,000,000, the leader is Gemy Zhou, + 396.2%, from Toronto, Canada. Mr. Zhou was born in Chongqing, China, and grew up in Chengdu, China. He has BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Science and Technology of China. He is a full-time trader. Sean Ryan, from Costa Mesa, California, is second, + 170%. Sean is the son of David Ryan, a three-time USIC winner. Sean finished 30th in 2021, + 18%, 13th in 2020, + 128%, and second in 2019, + 51.8%. In third place, + 82.2%, is Shane X. Zhang, from Toronto, Canada. Shane grew up in Vancouver and is a full-time trader. The other entrants reporting profits in the stock division are: Manish Patel + 69.2%; Justin Saffel + 64%; Shahid Saleem + 50%; Arthur Smelyansky + 42.4%; Nishit Shailesh Mehta + 36.9%; Santhosh Koyadan + 29.7%; Joey Stephens + 23.8%; Alan Rice + 19.2%; Sundeep Idlani + 18.3%; Don Bartell + 7%; Joo Liang Tee + 5.8%; Dan Dormody + 4.7%; Rainier Trinidad + 3%; Karthik Rajasekaran + 2.3%; and John Rodrigues + 2%.

The enhanced growth division allows the trading of futures and long options. Leading the $1,000,000 + enhanced growth division after nine months is Maziyar Yousefizad, + 21.6%, from Toronto, Canada. Mr. Yousefizad is the founder of Derivatix Capital Management, LLC. He manages the Fortune Reliance Fund. Mr. Yousefizad previously worked as a senior risk and business analyst for CIBC and TD, two Canadian banks in Toronto. He attended Sharif University of Technology in Iran, receiving a BS in Industrial Engineering and an MBA. He moved to Canada in 2005.

In the enhanced growth division, among traders with accounts of less than $1,000,000, the leader is Jarrett Jacobs, + 147.8%, from Los Angeles, California. He has a BS in finance from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. Mr. Jacobs worked as a market maker at the Pacific Stock Exchange in San Francisco and is currently a CPA. Second is Dan Dubyk, + 105%, from Philadelphia. Third is Hieu Tuong, + 64.5%, from Louisville, Kentucky. Mr. Tuong is a medical doctor. He was born in Vietnam. The other entrants with profits are Vishal B. Malkan + 36.9%, Pierre M. Fiorini + 2.1%, and Nick Marino + .4%.

The contest coordinator, Dr. Norman Zadeh (aka Zada), taught Operations Research in a visiting capacity at Stanford, UCLA, UC Irvine, and Columbia universities between 1975 and 1983. Dr. Zadeh managed hedge funds from 1991 to 2012. He is the son of Lotfi Zadeh, the creator of fuzzy logic.
