Sama CEO Wendy Gonzalez Named 2022 Woman of the Year by Business Intelligence Group

SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Sama, the leader in providing high-quality training data for ambitious AI, announced today that CEO Wendy Gonzalez received the Business Intelligence Group’s BIG Award for Business and was named Woman of the Year. BIG’s annual awards program recognizes companies, products and people that are leading their respective industries.

Under Gonzalez’s leadership, Sama closed the largest round of financing for a woman-led AI infrastructure company and was among the first AI companies to achieve Certified B Corporation status. The lauded B Corp achievement is for companies meeting high global standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency on factors from employee benefits and charitable giving, to supply chain practices, and input materials.

Additionally, Gonzalez led the completion of Sama’s three-year Randomized Control Trial study with MIT, which validated Sama’s impact-sourcing model. The company’s model offers a pathway out of poverty through skills training and AI work. She also led Sama to recognition on the Inc. 5000 list for three years in a row, and Forbes AI 50 list.

“I’m honored to have been named Woman of the Year by the Business Intelligence Group,” said Gonzalez. “This achievement would not have been possible without the efforts of the entire team at Sama.

She continued, “One of our primary objectives at Sama is to open doors for more women in tech, and our Randomized Control Trial confirmed that our model is accomplishing exactly that.”

“We are so proud to reward Wendy Gonzalez for her outstanding 2022 leadership and achievements,” said Maria Jimenez, chief nomination officer of the Business Intelligence Group. “This year’s group of winners have shown that resilience and determination are ‘must-haves’ in today’s economy.”
