Bid on a Private Lunch With Ray Dalio to Help Support Financial Education for All Students

Helping the Council for Economic Education Build Life Skills Nationwide

NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#CEERay Dalio, New York Times bestselling author and the founder of Bridgewater Associates, the world’s largest hedge fund, will host an exclusive “Lunch with Ray” auction to raise funds and bring attention to the importance of financial literacy for the next generation, underscoring his belief in the value of personal finance and economics education for young people.

In honor of April’s Financial Literacy Month, the Council for Economic Education (CEE), the nation’s leading nonprofit focused on helping youth gain financial and economic knowledge for life, is auctioning a private lunch with the global investment leader. All funds raised will help ensure every student in America is taught essential financial basics in high school.

“The Council for Economic Education and I share the goal of helping people understand how money and economics work. I believe these skills are fundamental to people’s well-being and are often neglected,” said Dalio. “CEE works with K-12 students, their families and teachers through their teaching and I share my knowledge on how the economy works through my books, videos and social media. To raise money, CEE is auctioning a lunch with me in support of their efforts to ensure that all children graduate high school with this fundamental understanding.”

Anyone can bid here on the lunch opportunity. The winning bidder and up to two guests will join Dalio on a date to be mutually agreed upon in New York City.

Bidding will be open through Financial Literacy Month; the final bid will be accepted April 28 and the winner announced soon thereafter. All proceeds will help CEE fulfill its mission to continue to develop and equitably expand access to its free classroom resources, teacher training and student programming.

“We see that students who take financial education in high school have improved credit scores, reduced default rates and are less likely to have outstanding debt,” said Nan J. Morrison, CEE president and chief executive officer. “Yet only about half the states require students to learn about these essential skills, and only about a fourth of U.S. students are guaranteed a personal finance education. We are grateful to Ray Dalio and every supporter for helping CEE close the education gap.”

Dalio, a global macro investor for more than 50 years, founded Bridgewater Associates out of his two-bedroom apartment in NYC and ran it for most of its 47 years, building it into the largest hedge fund in the world and the fifth most important private company in the U.S. according to Fortune Magazine. His investment innovations (e.g., risk parity, alpha overlay and All Weather) changed the way global institutions approach investing, and he has received several lifetime achievement awards. Over the decades he has been a valued macroeconomic adviser to many policymakers around the world. He is also the New York Times #1 bestselling author of Principles: Life and Work, Principles for Dealing with the Changing World Order, and Principles for Navigating Big Debt Crises.

In addition to the auction, CEE is celebrating Financial Literacy Month (FLM) with free professional development for teachers, working with its national affiliates to proclaim FLM in every state, and will hold its annual Visionary Awards benefit April 26 honoring extraordinary leaders who promote economic and financial literacy.

Donations to CEE, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, may be tax deductible to the extent allowed by law; consult your accountant or tax adviser for more information.
